Aquamarine Gem – Better Than the Movie
You may not have seen it, unless you have young girls at home, but there was a movie that came out with the same name of the gemstone we love. Unfortunately the aquamarine name is where the comparison ends.
Aquamarine, the movie, is about two teenagers who are ending their summer on a sad note because one of them is about to have to move to Australia. When they think all hope is lost, they meet a mermaid who, as if by fate or fairy tale writing, offers to grant them a wish if they help her land a man. She is on a quest to find true love within three days so she can leave the confines of the arranged-marriage her father has set up for her in the mermaid world. It all sounds a little fishy, or at least a little like The Little Mermaid, if you take out the angry voice-stealing, witchy octopus and trade a pair of fish and crab sea animal sidekicks for a couple of teenaged girls.
The movie didn’t do amazingly well, getting B- and C grades from reviewers, a grade the almost always perfect aquamarine gemstone would never get. But it did spawn a new game… A drinking game that encourages people to drink every time the girls squeal, anyone says "love", or any number of other things happen on the screen. The general idea is to have enough to drink that you no longer care about how cliché the movie is.
If you want to have the movie as part of your collection, because you own everything aquamarine, you will likely be able to pick up this less than perfect gem for a few bucks in those big department store bins of cheap movies.
