A Dessert That is Good Enough to Wear

If you’re looking for a unique dessert idea, and have an extra $14,500, you may want to head for the Wine3 Glass Wine Cave at The Fortress Resort in Sri Lanka. They serve a dessert that on the menu is called ‘The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence’. Others just call it the Fortress Aquamarine.

While it is a dessert item, with Bailey’s flavored gold leaf Italian kasata, that has been drizzled with a pomegranate and mango compote and a champagne sabayon, what will really get your attention from this dish is the small, carved chocolate stilt-fisherman that is holding an 80 carat aquamarine stone.

The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Dessert has been labeled the world’s most expensive dessert by Forbes Traveler.

If you really want to eat this right, they recommend using a set of special handmade glass utensils. The glass cutlery pairing does cost extra, but after you’ve already plunked down $14,500 on the dessert, why not go all out and get the glassware too.

But wait there’s more. If you want to gather the whole gem collection available at The Fortress, you may want to also order one of their Bombay Sapphire Martini’s with, you guessed it, a real sapphire in the glass.

If you just want the gem, it’s going to be much more affordable to buy a whole table full of desserts and already set aquamarine jewelry from a jeweler, versus one you still have to buy a setting for that comes with the dessert. But, it would make quite an impact to have this dessert set in front of you.

Not that anyone has experienced that impact. So far, no one has ordered the outlandish dessert. Luckily, aquamarines don’t go bad, and can just sit around waiting until someone decides they have a wallet full of thousand dollar bills to spend on a few drinks and some sweets.
