How Big is a Carat?

Check the spelling on that. It is carat, not carrot so there will be no punch lines here.

How big? Well, aquamarine wasn't really sure. Last night in India, Opulence, a jewelry brand in Asia displayed a 34.77 carat pair of diamond earrings to which the crowd responded, "Wow". Wow, we suspect, to the size.

So, how big is a carat? What had the people attending last night's dinner leaning forward on the edge of their seats? We asked our friends at James Allen Jewelers and they just happen to have the answer to our carat question.

At last night's unraveling, Bobby Kothari, Chairman and CEO of Opulence™ said, and I quote, "Jewelry as an adornment or fashion accessory is almost as integral to a woman’s wardrobe as her clothes." And we agree! We said so much a few weeks ago in our article on the perfect earrings.

So no matter if it's carats, carrots or carobs (see James Allen) jewelry is an enormous part of a ladies wardrobe. If you're thinking of it as a gift it's a safe bet. What would she rather wear than jewelry? Ask her this and then when she responds, "Well, probably a jacket if it's freezing" tell her how big a carat is and and ask her if 37.44 would keep her warm. Or perhaps a 300-carat necklace from Sotheby's. See if she doesn't reconsider.

Wow.
